Child Support or Alimony
Debt
Child support
or alimony debt typically comes after a divorce settlement when
one parent makes monthly payments to the other for financial support.
Either can be received only by court order. Child support ensures
monetary support for a child for health insurance and childcare.
Alimony, or spousal support, is paid to a spouse to help with living
expenses over and above the money provided by child support. While
child support is calculated numerically, alimony is typically decided
by a judge. Alimony is often decided by the earning potential of
both parties, their respective age and health, and property involved.
